LANDSCAPES
The first photographs I took back in the 1970s were of landscapes in England's Lake District and Peak District. From an early age I was drawn to mountains and this love has continued throughout my life. I also share writer Lawrence Durrell's sense of a quasi-animistic presence in a landscape that he called Spirit of Place or to give it the old Latin name: genius locii. This is what I hope to capture in my photographs of the landscapes I have been fortunate enough to experience during my travels. My first landscape photos were captured on Black and White film and then of course I moved on to colour, but more recently I have returned to my roots and embraced the play of light and shadow in monochromatic images.
